Merch Review: Sticker Ninja Clear & Glitter Stickers

Although Sticker Ninja doesn’t have a sample kit of their stickers, they do offer custom sample stickers for testing your designs before an actual order. Since this is my second time ordering a custom sample from them, this time I went with high expectations for their clear stickers.

Ninja Sticker is a sticker printing company based in Portland, Oregon. They specialize in various sticker materials such as waterproof, UV-resistant, biodegradable, neon, holographic, chrome, front adhesive, and more. They also offer sticker books, gift cards, sample packs, labels, etc. There are 2 things I would like to point out: their job culture and the engagement with their audience. More of that later on.

My Annie design from Skullgirls was the chosen one for the glitter effect.

Stardust Sticker

This was my first custom sample I ordered from them in the early years of the pandemic. I was very curious about this product and wanted to try it out. Their instruction back then was to write them what I wanted this material to do in my design. This was easy to set up on their page, and I wrote them in the note section where the holographic glitter effect should be visible.

Look how visible the nails shine with the glitter!
Loving the stars blasting with the glitter.

The production ran smoothly, and they even added glitter in here nails, even though I only specified I wanted the stars and the shoes to sparkle. Honestly, the fact that they added the glitter effect in her nails was a nice touch, and I loved it!

Freebie variations inspection for future orders.

Tons Of Freebies

One of the things I noticed about the company was the freebie section, and not just stickers, but also candies! The small package arrived fast and secured, and I was surprised the candies didn’t spoil or melt during transit after arriving in P.R. I think this is a nice thing to do for your clients.

Gotta love the humor and the meme reference.

Variations

Now let’s talk about 2025. Since this is my second time ordering a custom sample from them, I can’t remember if I got some freebies on my first order; these freebies were included in my package. Not sure if these are the only designs they provide or if they have more designs randomly mixed up.

I do appreciate having this small batch for proper inspection if I decide in the future to order more, but with different materials. You can see that the thickness and durability are great, and they are easy to peel off.

The “Grab A Bag” Sample Pack

Initially, I mistakenly stated that Sticker Ninja doesn’t offer a sample pack of their stickers, but to my surprise, after browsing around their website, I finally found their sample pack. It took me a while to find it since I had to actually dig deeper in the sticker section. It cost $8 and the pack includes 20 stickers of their mascot with all the materials and finishes.

My only problem with this was that the “Grab A Bag” is hidden from view. Unless you navigated completely through the sticker section after the “Label”, which the sample pack is located in “+Others“, you probably wouldn’t find it on time. This was confusing and created a “missed opportunity” for those who like to review the materials first before ordering a custom batch.

Difference Between StickerApp & Sticker Ninja

Both companies have their pros and cons; it just depends on what you are looking for to invest in. For example, StickerApp offers a sticker sample pack of all their finishes and materials, including chart values of the colors and their materials. But they don’t have a custom sample pack to see how your stickers will turn out in a small and affordable batch.

Contrary to Sticker Ninja, they do offer an affordable batch of custom stickers (from choosing the type of material, cut, to sizes), but don’t provide value charts of their stickers in their sample pack. One thing is to see the material and feel it with their designs; the other is to see a chart of how the colors behave in each material and their quality.

My Small Disappointment

Although the quality of the sticker was great, including the clear material and the white ink layer, I was bummed that it didn’t turn out like I was hoping for. The actual semi-transparency of the slime girls’ skins was the only thing I couldn’t achieve. I lowered the skin’s transparency to 70%, but it didn’t produce the desired effect I was looking for.

I asked them a favor in their note section of their custom sample if they had references to achieve the semi-transparent effect in the skin tones, but the only response I got back was that the design was pretty in the soft proof phase. Maybe this was due to them being busy, or they probably didn’t see my note at all.

I would say, if there is a way to achieve the semi-transparency effect (just like the photos above from the StickerApp sample pack chart values) in Sticker Ninja, I think it is a great idea to have different variations with photos and the actual percent used for the opacity.

Regardless of whether Sticker Ninja sold their sample pack for $8 while StickerApp gave it for free, I’ve wouldn’t mind spending those $8 and expand my merch review posts with more visuals and documentation. I’m all about keeping record and studying everything I acquire during my journey.

Conclusion

I think they are a great company that offers some services and products that other companies don’t. Does this mean I won’t be ordering from them, since I was disappointed with the aspect that the skin colors didn’t have the transparency effect I desired? Absolutely not. These are just samples for testing. Perhaps this will serve as a lesson not just to me, but to my viewers about the challenges that anyone can encounter after production.

Some might be thinking why I never said anything once I got the soft-proofing of the stickers before confirming production. The reality is because the soft-proofing is a digital preview, there wasn’t anything telling me that the opacity of the skins would be printed out at 100%. So it was hard to tell with the PDF if the stickers needed a second revision for correction.

Cost & Shipping

If I don’t mistake, I think it cost me like between $20 to $23 overall, with the shipping, for a custom sample of my clear stickers.

Quality

The quality was great, the colors were top-notch, the only thing I wasn’t able to produce was the semi-transparency of the skin colors of the slime girls, by lowering the opacity to 70%.

Quantity

Honestly, I was expecting 5 pieces, like I did previously with the glitter stickers, but to my surprise, I received more than that, and I appreciate it.

Communication

Although they don’t operate on Sundays (that’s fair), I don’t have anything to say about their communication. Yes, their time production was great, and they reached out with the soft-proofing, telling me that my designs were cute and that they loved them.

If you are searching for a variety of stickers with complexities and specific details that need to be executed, then I encourage you to try Sticker Ninja. And if you want to go the extra mile and obtain additional cool perks like a gift card or a book sticker to protect your collection, then go for it.
