One of the main functions of holographic films is often used for security purposes. They are commonly used for printing, packaging, lamination, stickers, credit cards, driver’s licenses, pharmaceutical products, etc. These are categorized into 2 types: Transparent (clear sheet with rainbow effect colors) or foil (monochrome of a single color or tones of colors) film. They also have multiple design patterns too.

The New Search

I discovered this type of material when I stumbled upon a merch that Barachan made with the help of Jimi Agency. That’s when I wanted to do the same and order a batch of memo pads with them. After that, I did extensive research until I saw another artist on Instagram with a photo of her stickers made with the same material but a different design. I asked her for a reference, and she politely shared me with a store called Paperstreetplastic. On a side note, you can now find these through eBay or Etsy, from a package of several sheets with one design, or a bundle of random designs with a variety of sizes.

The Comparison

Being able to explore these holographic designs in many merchandise may seem cool, but sometimes you have to study your options and how they affect your products. Not everything will seem cute and colorful, as I will show you the difference between these 2 common designs and how they work. You will be able to decide which better suits your choice, but I suggest that you experiment with that yourself. The Broken Prism or Broken Crystal most of the time is less noticeable once placed in the design (depending on the color quality), but it gains power and projects beautiful vibrant patterns when tossed to the light. The good thing about this is that it maintains the original design, without making any further distractions. The bad thing is that it might make your sticker a little bit opaque if it has dark cold colors like blue, purple, or green. It’s subtle in many forms, from having a simple, asymmetric pattern, to exposing soft multi-colors.

The Holographic Glitter or Sequins are very attractive and eye-catching. Lots of colorful and vibrant dots dance and shine while moving the sheet directly to the light. Even from far away, you can see the effect, it’s all fun and games until you peel the sheet and put it onto your design. Once you get closer, you’ll see this explosion of colors and nothing else. In other words, the sparkle effect may distract the customer from seeing the design overall of your creation.

Prices may depend, sometimes they can be cheap and other times a bit expensive for just small or larger quantities.

Quality

The holographic was strong and vibrant (depending on the pattern), the paper adhesive was very light with a strong glue.

Quantity

Depends on the product. Sellers can sell you some mini sheets (6.25 x 8) to a roll of more than 10 feet.

Communication

The seller was fast responding to messages.

As I said in the previous post, is very fun to experiment with, yet a bit frustrating at one point. It is worth the try just to gain techniques and knowledge. I really liked the final result, but still, I want to learn what’s out there and what other materials can be discovered. So don’t get stuck on this if you like to adventure yourself unless you feel comfortable in your safe zone…
