Ponce Comic Bazaar 2015

So this year it was my third art convention and this time I went far beyond! After many bs that life seems not to get tired throwing at me, I managed to organize and do everything on time. On Sunday, November 22, at 2 am, I got released from my job, to then arrive at home to sleep for 3 hours. By 6:30 am got picked up by my partner and at 7:40 am we arrived at the place.

My table is all set up, all organized but still needs more improvement and merchandise!

The Excitement Begins!

While I was setting up my table, I noticed that someone was greeting us one by one, it was the father of the manager of the event. He greeted me with a huge smile and warm handshake. A few minutes later the owner passed by my table and greeted me. We had a nice conversation about the arts, the creative development on our island, and copyright issues. We shared our opinions and experiences with life and conventions, all I can say is that we both agreed on a specific subject…

I wish that art festivals and such events promoted more often the originality and creativity, because people rely so much on fanart these days.

I don’t have an issue with it, nor supporting the artist for doing it. I’ve done a few fan arts for fun by giving it all the love and recognition it deserves. What I find unfair is that in order for the people to notice you and recognize your potential, you must do tons of fan art, but I will leave this discussion for another proper time.

My Experience and Perspective

Most of the participants were kiosks with general merchandise. A few were artists, and we were scattered in different places, unreachable one to the other. These kiosks were a huge competition because they sold from general items to reproduce artworks; which can cause an impact on your selling performance. For me, it went smoothly, made new clients and allies, established some connections, and even sold most of my merchandise, which helped me out to upgrade my tools!

Met amazing people who had crossed their country to come by this event. We shared conversations about work, struggles, careers, and have the possibility to study in other countries. It was an amazing experience!

Broke but Satisfied!

Now I know what it feels like to have $20 on you and be able to buy 3 items only! I have to say, you have to respect artists’ prices because these troopers worked endlessly to have their products ready. Anyway, I set a limit to my budget whenever I can support artists by buying their beautiful pieces at the event.

Good Times

After the event, my partner and I celebrated our triumph in the hotel with empty stomachs. First, we headed to contemplate the relaxing view. We are so used to working under pressure in our company that sometimes we forget to relax a little.

I suggested trying the Fried Ice-cream for once. I think my partner dreams about the dessert because she goes nuts about it. We loved every byte even though it left us craving more for it. After that, we headed back to our place, which took us another hour or so. By 10 pm I was back home with my luggage, was quite tired but had fun. I’m proud of myself for making big steps and being independent. I’m still setting my eyes to another long journey for the sake of my passion and desire!
